Each cycle, the operator behind a project posts an update and sets the return figure that revalues your holding. The update is where you learn whether to keep backing that operator.
A strong update covers
- What was produced this cycle and how it compares to the plan.
- Input costs and anything unusual about them.
- Where and at what price the output was sold.
- Any problems — weather, disease, delays — and what was done about them.
- What the next cycle looks like.
Warning signs
- A number with no explanation.
- Every cycle described as excellent, regardless of the figure.
- Problems that appear for the first time only when the result is poor.
Consistent, specific updates — even about a hard cycle — are a good sign. Read a few before you scale up a position.
