Shorter cycles
Poultry, leafy vegetables, some fish. Capital frees up in months, you see results sooner, and you can adjust course quickly. The trade-off is more frequent decisions and transaction steps.
Longer cycles
Tree crops, cattle, some staple crops. Your money is committed for a year or more. These can suit a set-and-leave approach, but you must be sure you will not need that capital in the meantime.
Building a ladder
Hold a mix so that something is maturing every few months. That gives you regular points to withdraw or redeploy without having to exit a project early.
